Your smile plays a huge role in the impression you make upon first meeting someone. During the first introduction the first thing seen is your teeth and their appearance.

These people turn to at-home kits and lengthy braces as solutions for their oral insecurities. As more and more people have turned to these, a new industry has been created.

This industry is called cosmetic dentistry and focuses solely on the appearance of teeth. Anyone with a dental license can practice and perform specific techniques unique to cosmetic dentistry.

This means dentists who feel they have a more artistic eye can specialize in this industry which improves the aesthetics of your smile. Dentistry tends to be a pretty technical trade so some dentists prefer to go into this specific industry where they can implement their artistic talents.

As long as you know your cosmetic dentist has an artistic eye you can be ensured a beautiful smile. The work they do will enhance the appearance of your teeth and improve your personal confidence.

A main goal of many people is having white teeth. The overall appearance of your smile improves significantly simply by having a bright smile.

Because so many people strive to have a white smile, many companies have created at-home kits. These kits can be bought and used in your own bathroom.

Despite the convenience of these kits, they do not have as much control over the final color as a professional whitening does. These kits often leave your teeth still too yellow or can over whiten to the point of translucency.

They start with a screw which they insert up into your gum line and bone. When the bone has effectively grown around the screw it has been successfully rooted in.

At this point the dentist takes a fake tooth designed to look exactly like the rest of your teeth and attaches it to the bottom of the screw. You are left with a tooth that looks and feels just like your others.

Sometimes getting just one tooth repaired for people is not enough. Sometimes these people want to change the appearance of all their teeth.

When this is the case they can get a smile makeover. Cosmetic dentists perform this on all your teeth for a perfected smile.

With a smile makeover the dentist roughens up all the teeth so there is a rougher surface to bond to. He then takes porcelain veneers, covers that are designed just how you want them, and applies them to the outside front of your teeth.

A common misconception is that in order to get porcelain veneers you must saw down your teeth so you can never go back to how they were. This is simply a false notion because all that is required is a slight roughening of the surface that is undetectable by the naked eye.

Porcelain veneers are just as strong, if not stronger, than your natural enamel. Because of this when you get a smile makeover you are only adding another layer of protection for your teeth.

When choosing a cosmetic dentist be sure to ask around for references. It is also important that you ask to see a portfolio of work the dentist has done so you can determine whether or not you are interested in what he or she can do.

When you are confident in your choice you should feel free to go ahead and decide what you want. By turning to cosmetic dentistry you get your dream smile in an average of 2– visits to the dentist.
